About

To help support the spiritual journey of relatives who passed away, family members gather on Dia de los Muertos to pray and remember, visit graves and honor the deceased with ofrendas, favorite food and beverage of the departed.

San Andres de Mixquic is a small town in the Federal District of Mexico City where I chose to document the event. The solemnity and grief I was expecting was mixed with some sort of vibrant agitation. Orange and yellow marigold flowers are simply everywhere with beaming candles. The smoke and scent of ceremonial herbs burning create a mystical atmosphere that makes navigation between graves a sacred journey.
